Have you ever been walking down the aisle at your local bookstore or scrolling down on GoodReads and suddenly found yourself stopping and picking up a book you've never even heard of only because you loved the cover? How about the other way around? Has a cover ever stopped you from reading a book? You've read the reviews, you might have even read a couple sample pages but then you get there and you are so turned off by the cover that you just can't bring yourself to buy it?
You know the saying: "Never judge a book by its cover"? Well, that's a lie. The truth is, your first impression of a book is going to be determined by what it looks like. Our favorite books are usually those that have the perfect synergy between looks and brains, plot and visual design. So that is what this section is all about: What makes a good cover? What goes into making the perfect cover? How does the design impact a book? Does the cover even matter if the book is absolutely fantastic?
Every weekend, we will be putting on our visual-information-designer goggles and talk about -duh- design. Our personal opinions will surely come through, but we're going to stay objective and focus on what works, what doesn't work and why; whether we liked it or not.
