A horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob
journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the
crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob
explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the
children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have
been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible
though it seems—they may still be alive.
I
enjoyed this book when I thought I wasn't going to like it. The creepy feeling
of photographs is what got my attention, but I never thought I was going to
enjoy the story as much as I did. It was a pleasant surprise and the pictures
were so creepy.
The
story isn't awfully original once things get to be explained, I've read many
reviews comparing Miss Peregrine's home to a very popular comic book (No, I
won't spoilt it for you!).But still, there are many other aspects that made the
story entertaining.
Jacob,
the main character, is very likable and even though he is a teenager, he is not
as whiney as I was expecting (not at all), he is not abnormally brave and has
feelings without them being over done; the way he loved and cared for his
grandfather only made me miss my grandfather so so much… ahem~ I wont get
emotional, but it really did! .
The
love story kind of threw me off, it was weird and unappealing. It felt as if
his love interest was replacing her long lost love with him (he even says so
once!), not cool. Also I was expecting more horror that what I got. Still liked
it and am absolutely gonna get the sequel.
